Friday Night Form Filling
The thrilling life of affiliate marketing! I’ve got beer, Annie Mac on the radio and a whole bunch of affiliate networks to get signed up to.
Currently signed up to CJ and LinkShare, have been for a while for sale and revenue share focused offers but now getting hooked up with a few other networks that do more CPA style offers. Have been approved for PepperJam and Market Leverage so far, both look good with a great selection of offers and easy to use control panels. I’ve applied to a few others and still waiting to hear back but to be honest for the moment I’m not too worried, these should keep me busy over the weekend.
My International Super Affiliate tip of the day. Before you apply take 5 minutes to figure out what the hell a W-8 form is and get it filled out, it makes things go much smoother.
Now to browse some offers and my landing pages spruced up.
Another year and a fresh start.
And the award to the most procrastinating bugger of 2008? Yea I bagged that one…
I can’t do resolutions, but a new years goal I can manage and that goal will be to get started with what I wanted to do 6 months ago. The web just keeps getting better and stronger every year, the social media stars of facebook, digg and twitter have simply exploded in 2008 and while the world slumps into a global recession online sales at christmas were actually UP some crazy percent.
Goals for 2009?
- Signup and promote using PPC 1 offer from most major CPA affiliate networks.
- Create 5 adsense sites and drive traffic via SEO.
- Build a mixed portfolio that earns at least $500/mo
- Update the blog at least once a week.
- Get in contact with other bloggers in the affiliate marketing scene, twitter/comments/etc
That’s it, 5 super easy goals to achieve which should hopefully get the ball rolling.
This Weeks Top Websites For Sale
Since getting interesting in web development and making money online I’ve been keeping my eye on some of the website marketplaces. Sites like SitePoint and DigitalPoint have 100’s of websites for sale daily and for nearly every budget, no matter if you have $1 or $100,000 you can pick up a website in your chosen niche and style. There usually seems to be a rush of sites getting listed over the weekend, I assume since plenty of people do this sort of thing as a 2nd job, so for the past few weeks it’s been my Monday evening routine to have a good browse through all these auctions.
I’m going to make this a Monday feature on my blog and note down any of my highlights. Perhaps I’ll look back in a few months at each site and see if i picked winners or stinkers… Feel free to post comments and abuse me if I pick stinkers because you know I’m going to brag about the winners I choose!
Website Auction Sites
The main two I look at are SitePoint and DigitalPoint but there are many more to chose from. Many people think the best way is to Google for sites in your chosen niche and look for hobby sites ran by enthusiasts that have good search engine listings and good content but are not monetised at all.
- SitePoint is probably the biggest website auction site. Everything from famous sites worth $100,000 to startup $1 sites.
- DigitalPoint is a great forum for any web entrepreneur. Apart from their sites for sale forum they’ve loads of forums covering every area of online business.
- WebSiteBroker is similar to SitePoint but I’m not really keen on it, it’s not as nice to browse (and on my budget it’s all I can do!) but perhaps better for people who know exactly what they want to buy.
- BuySellWebsite could really do with a bit of a redesign. It’s too hard to find the info you need and aain not as friendly to browse though as the others.
- WebMaster-Talk is another great web forum with an area for selling websites. Occasionally l check it out but most sites for sale are just adverts for an auction at one for the above marketplaces.
- eBay is the classic auction website. Quite a few websites up there but I find allot to be a bit of a scam, perhaps that unfair because there is good deals, but certainly lots of people playing on non-web peoples ignorance.
- Then you’ve got sites like bizbuysell or businessesforsale. Neither of those are very web specific and more to do with buying a brick and mortar business but you do occasionally see things for sale.
That’s the insiders guide for where to buy a website from. Starting next week I’ll list my favourites and follow a few of them for the next few months like a geeky version of fantasy football.
UBD turns 1. Birthday Contest!
The guys over at Unique Blog Designs are running a competition to celebrate their 1-year anniversary. The creators of the great free theme I use on this blog, UBD Money Maker, have worked with many big names in the blogging scene. With over 200 clients and some very high quality paid and free themes they’re clearly doing something right. Perhaps once I actually start making money I’ll treat myself to a custom theme!
The UBD 1-Year Anniversary Contest is offering an iPod Touch 8GB and a free copy of their new UBD Citrus WordPress theme to one lucky winner. Three runners up will also win a copy of the new UBD Citrus theme.
The contest runs until the 31st August and entry is simple. Either write a blog post (like this one!) and link back to their blog or simply write a comment to their blog post. Winners will be chosen on the 1st Sept.
Happy birthday and thanks UBD!
Where Did August Go?
Where indeed, what an unbelievably busy month! My day job has been sticking it’s nose in where it’s really not wanted, although it’s actually quite an exciting project it’s meant allot less time than I’d hoped to spend on my websites.
But don’t think I’ve forgot about them, have been getting some great groundwork done and fleshing out my idea’s. One of my favourites is a image hosting site but not your generic script install with 0 customisation, oh no, I have grand ideas.
This is sort of part social network, part hot-or-not, part image hosting aimed at gamers. I’m pretty sceptical about the generic image hosting sites that are seen for sale too often on DP and the likes, there’s no real way to monetise them very effectively and they use vast amounts of bandwidth and disk space for the amount of revenue. I’m aiming to not only have image hosting but some social features that lets people browse and interact and actually stay on the site for longer periods of time.
So lots of background testing of various scripts and brushing up my PHP in order to modify them to my needs. Also spent ages getting all my domain names moved from various places and all parked up at sedo.com. I can’t quite believe it but I’ve got over 50 domains!
Top 3 Low Capital Online Money Makers
Let’s get straight into the thick of things.
I’ll be starting with as little capital as possible and while that is a pretty big disadvantage it’s not insurmountable. My budget for my early sites is going to be about $500 and this includes web hosting, advertising and any other expenses. The great thing about the internet is so many things are free!
Here’s the area’s I’m looking to start earning money in. Sort of in order, subject to change of course, any good entrepreneur should be ready to adapt to the markets. This will be a quick top 3 overview, I’m looking to get more in-depth with future posts and hopefully provide some real examples of my own sites. As always, please let me know your comments on this.
